The iconic Eilean Donan Castle stands on it’s small islet in Loch Duich and has featured in many films and TV shows over the years. The castle itself is quite a feat of determination, it was a ruin prior to the 1940s when a dedicated wartime pilot took it on himself to rebuild it stone by stone until it was standing gloriously over the loch again.
I love this photograph, the castle takes the role of background to the lobster kreels on the slip way, it’s a timeless view with the patterns of daily life echoing through the eons on the loch. The weather adds to that sense of place, a blue sky would give an entirely different feel to the piece.
This is somewhere I love to photograph, but finding a unique take on such an iconic view is a challenge. I don’t like taking a photograph that others have done many times before, I always want to find a take on the view that is imbued with meaning. That has something to say, that has something for me to say….
