Most photographers seem to wake up with a plan (particularly in the world of landscape photography). Today… I woke up with a plan. I spotted a scene out near Foyers that I wanted to go and shoot today!
Except everything changed. We woke up to a winter wonderland for one, which was partially expected, but we then decided to take the Dacia out to see how it handled the snow – so my big panoramic camera was left behind. I dropped Jen off at work (she is away on a business trip today so didn’t want to leave a car in the office car park) and decided to revisit an old scene instead – one that I shot for my Licenciateship panel with the BIPP and which had been well recieved. I really wanted to shoot this one analogue as well, but I wasn’t sure that it was going to be worth the trip so decided against going back for the film cameras… infact I was so insure all I took with me was my commercial photography bag with my lower resolution body and slower lenses in it!
In some ways I am a bit dissapointed that I was travelling so ill prepared for the scene… but then sometimes creativity comes from compromise. I shot this scene on a Nikon Z6II and Laowa 15mm “Dreamer” f4.5 shift lens and converted it to monochrome using NIK Silver FX, I think the result is really quite pleasing too!

As I mentioned, this is my second bite at this particular scene, the first visit was on a random exploration trip, but I will add it here too as it has a very different feel to it!

This original version was shot using the Nikon Z7II, which is a higher resolution beast, and photographed using the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 lens which is a very high end bit of kit. I like both of these, one shot at the start of Spring and one at the start of Winter. There is less roof now following a couple of substantial storms too! I still feel there is more to do here though, including that ellusive analogue version!
