All the parts arrived to repair the Fuji yesterday, so I spent an hour or so carefully cutting and sticking lightseals into the camera. This is not something I have done before, and the internet was telling me it was hard and complicated….
It wasn’t… as with so many thing on line I think people like to overcomplicate things in order to make themselves seem a bit special. Whether it has been a success or not remains to be seen as the instructions were a wee bit vague and all the seals had long since turned to dust so I had little to go on for reference off the camera itself. It was also a wee bit different to the example camera so I had to go off-piste and more or less make it up as I went along! Anyway, seals in and left to cure overnight (rather than the 15 minutes that was suggested). When we got back from town this afternoon the Formopan 100 had arrived, a really cheap film stock which is dismissed by many but absolutely adored be a few… I remain to see which camp I fall into!), so I have loaded a roll into the Fuji which I will shoot over the next few days and process on Thursday when I am booked in for a morning in the darkroom again.
I feel like I am on the cusp of making this whole analogue thing work for me, it’s not like I have never succeeded in it before after all! It is taking a little longer than anticipated though, but that may be because I am going all in with very simplistic cameras that demand a lot more of the photographer than most more recent offerings. Very simplistic, but very, very high quality I should probably add!
Anyway, I will hopefully report back with some success on the Fuji front later in the week. I have plenty of material left over if I haven’t quite got it right so can try again, probably another 3 times!
But I shall leave you tonight with a view of the sunset a couple of hours ago.
