Stepping Outside

Stepping Outside

Today I stepped well outside my current comfort zone… one that has been largely self imposed since… certain events some years ago. I withdrew from many aspects of life back then, it wasn’t conscious… but it has been hard trying to get out and meet people ever since.

This last few weeks I have been making an effort though – I joined the Darkroom and have been along to a couple of the Tuesday night sessions. It is tricky due to other commitments to go regularly but when I can I do. I have also put myself forward for qualifications which is going to be a judging event and then a social evening. Next week I am trying a camera club (again – it didn’t go well last time in Cumbria but hey ho… another place and time, maybe it will be different). And today… today I joined a Photowalk in Inverness.

And it was good.

I am not good at this social engagement thing anymore, I probably overcompensate at the moment. But you have to try and put yourself out I guess. There was also a report recently that men with little social interaction have generally truncated life experiences… so I figured I best do something to break out of the tortured artist phase before it’s too late!

I have never taken much notice of the murials on the upper level of the Rose Street Foundary in Inverness before, but they really are magnificent!
