Welcome to my latest website and associated blog all about the life and times of a full time working photographer in the Highlands of Scotland. An area of outstanding natural and cultural beauty, but also a challenging place to live and work, particularly in a creative field such as photography.

I am a commercial photographer and videographer working in the property market for the main, but moonlighting in a myriad of other roles as opportunity presents itself. I photograph houses and create advertising videos that can be anything from 20 second snippets for socials through to several minute long inspirational pieces to really showcase what is on offer.

But I have ambitions way beyond this! I won Outdoors Photographer of the Year many moons ago and Property Photographer of the Year in 2021 with the above photograph taking that award. My aim now that I have established myself in the world of commercial work is to do the same in “landscapes”, a phrase that I am using very loosely as I want to encompass more than just the physical world around us, I want to include more of the human element in my work, contemporary and historical. I also want to delve into the stories I grew up with – the mythology and legends of the land… and represent these through the medium of photography. This new page is, as a result, an offshoot of my commercial work – but it retains the same name – Wayward Spirit – as it just fits. It holds deep significance to me, and it is descriptive of what I am in life whilst referencing my long lost big brother who could well still wander this world in another form.

Within these blog posts I want to talk about what I do, where I go and how I do what I do in terms of artistic content and perhaps wider life in general. I am trying to move my blog posts on my commercial website more in the direction of commercial work and provide differentiation between my business side and my artistic side. Whilst I am a technical photographer on the one hand I am so much more an artist, and this is going to be where I can break loose of the constraints of the commercial world and indulge myself fully!
